Surface treatment
The surface must be durable, compact and dust-free. Having covered it with GRUNLIT acrylic primer, you should wait until it dries and then start attaching decorative slips. The slips can be fastened to each and every popular construction material such as concrete, cellular concrete, bricks and hollow bricks, plasterboards, spackles, adhesive spackle mortars with nets, provided that they are dry and water absorbing (that is oil-free, not covered with ceramic tiles, not covered with solvent paints e.g. oil paints).
Preparation of surfaces of old buildings’ walls.
Before insulating an existing building, you should carefully check and prepare the surface. To prepare an old surface in the right and appropriate way you should remove the reasons behind moistness and dry the damp places; if the walls or their fragments are permanently damp, remove the reasons behind possible fungi from walls and the fungi themselves, remove dust, algae and blooms with steel brushes and BIOLIT disinfection preparation, then rinse the surface under pressure, remove the peeling paint or plasters with wire brushes or sandblasting, wash greasy fragments of walls, roughen smooth surfaces with wire brushes or sandblasting, remove oil and emulsion paints and other hardly adhesive ones e.g. through sandblasting. In case of irregularities, faults, hollows and cavities more than 10 mm deep, such places should be levelled up.
FASTENING
Decorative tiles should be attached using TERMOLEP–D glue whose colour matches the colour of the slips, cause the joints shall also have the same colour. Before using the glue, you should first mix it using a ribbon mixer until you reach the homogenous texture. Apply with a notch trowel 4 mm. Avoid diluting the glue in water. Optimal temperature: + 10° C to +25° C. Store in hermetically closed genuine packages. Glue drying time (when the glue reaches its functional parameters) – 3 – 5 days, depending on the temperature and weather conditions. Protect it against freeze temperatures. Apply the glue on the prepared surface with a notch trowel 4 mm, so that glue bands be laid perpendicularly to the laid slips, which makes it easier to attach slips and do the joints. Depending on weather conditions (temperature, wind, humidity, sun exposure), you should distribute the glue in such a way and on such a surface (preferably from 0,5 to 1 m2) that you should manage to attach slips on the entire surface before the glue dries. Glue drying reduces the adhesiveness of decorative slips to the ground and makes it harder to do the joints correctly. Instead of dampening the dried glue, you should remove it and avoid adding and mixing it with the fresh glue from the package. First draw the upper line. After applying it, do the corners (if needed) or draw a vertical line where you will start laying the upper row of slips remembering about keeping the gaps for joints. Press each slip to let the excess of glue appear on each side of it. Attach the subsequent slips in the same manner. Having attached the slips, do the joints on the applied glue. For jointing use a small and flat brush with hard bristles whose width is similar to the width of joints. Your brush must be damp enough to enable aligning the glue in the joints. Do the joints along the vertical and horizontal edges of the slips so as to make the glue adhere closely to their lateral edges. It is unacceptable to leave fissures between the slips and glue cause it can let the slips loosen, especially in winter. Having jointed the slips, you should re-apply the glue on a determined area and attach slips by aligning each one with the surrounding slips. Then do the jointing again. Repeat the above until you have laid the slips all over the surface of your choice.
The tiles must be protected against rain until the glue dries completely (3 – 5 days). Tiles used outside must be protected with an impregnating product. Do not use our slips in places permanently exposed to water.
